Description:
The Creswick trail centre boasts 60km plus of tracks catering for beginners through to jump freaks and gravity addicts, as well as marked adaptive trails. It is a model for the modern trail centre.
There are relatively flat trails that meander along the bottom of the valley, but it gets more interesting as you head up the hills. To enjoy a day at Creswick, you have to put in the effort to climb a few times or use a motor of some description. The descents are thrilling, but relatively short, so you find yourself back at the bottom in no time, albeit with a grin from ear to ear.
The trails are organised around several hubs, each with its own character. Each trail hub has a map and an up-track or loop back. Every track has a marker which makes navigation easy. Just pick a hub, pick a few tracks and off you go.
Nearer town is the Gravity Hub (G trails) and further east are the more XC orientated trails in the Cosgrove Hub (C trails). There are also the N, L, and W Hubs in between that offer a mix of flow, technical and XC across various difficulties.
Whichever trails you choose, you’ll be rewarded with rad lines, sculpted berms and well-placed features.
There’s some big jump lines at the Gravity Hub which require commitment and a full face helmet at very least, but there’s also some gentler flow trails here too for those who prefer more wheels-on-ground time.
There is a shuttle service that runs on Saturday mornings or the network of fireroads means self-shuttling is possible if you have a willing volunteer.
Mostly the trails are excellent, but many of the berms seem to drop off just a bit too early (for drainage) making you take a tighter line than might seem natural. Great if you want to cutty each corner, but not great for all riders. Still, that’s a minor issue in what is overall an awesome network of trails.
The main trailhead has excellent facilities including showers and E Bike chargers, as well as a pump track, jumps course, and skills practice area. The trailhead is also just a couple of minutes out of town for trail ales and pies, coffee and cake.
