How this site works and what all the stuff means.
What trails are included?
The only places to ride on the MTB Victoria site are recognised and sanctioned trail centres. That means they all have sign posted trails and official maps, and most have at least some basic facilities at the trailhead.
Yes, there are other great places to ride in Victoria and a lot of these are 100% legal for mountain bikes. There are plenty of resources online to plan and plot your own route, or people that will show you round if you want to explore.
We wanted to keep it simple and only show places where you can just rock up, ride with confidence and not have to pee in a bush.

Example quick info box
Network size
The approximate total of waymarked trails if ridden in a single direction. That might mean that some trail centres on MTB Victoria have a shorter network distance than on other websites that count both directions.
Our Rating:
This is our rating out of five for the overall trail centre experience. It’s a combination of fun factor, trail quality, network size, ease of use, and facilities.
Facilities:
The facilities available at the main trailhead. Hover over the icons to get a popup of their meaning.
Trail difficulty:
A summary of the difficulty level of trails at the centre denoted by the bar inside the slider.
Skill level:
What skill levels the trails are suitable for. A thick bar is very suitable, a thinner bar is OK , but no bar indicates the centre is probably not suited for this skill level.
Bike chooser:
This reflects the types of bikes best suited to the trails. No point lugging a DH bike around flat trails or taking a knife to a gunfight and being under-equipped. This is just a guide though; if you want to hack that XC hardtail down a double black (you know who you are Andy) then go for it.
Links:
Links to trail maps, local clubs, website if the trail centre has one, and details on shuttles if applicable.
Where is it:
A google maps link to the trailhead and rough timings by car from Fed Square in Melbourne. We’ve tried to show options for travel by public transport where possible. Green ‘By PT’ text means it is good access, orange means it’s possible (just about), and red means it is nigh on impossible or impractical with a bike.
Traditional owners:
Traditional owners are recognised by name where formal state agreements are in place. Otherwise, we recognise the traditional owners for all the lands on which we ride. We’re thankful for your custodianship and care of the lands of such beauty that bring us such joy. We aim to leave nothing and take only memories with us.
